In his book Hyperspace: A Scientific Odyssey Through Parallel Universes, Time Warps, and the Tenth Dimension, Michio Kaku states that superstring theory predicts a total of ten dimensions—including the three familiar spatial dimensions (length, width, and height), one dimension of time, and six additional spatial dimensions. He also suggests that by transcending the “flat” world and viewing the universe through the framework of higher-dimensional space, many of the laws of nature become simpler and more comprehensible.
