Design concept

The “Lo-Sheng Sanatorium” was established in 1930 (Japanese Showa 5) and consists of various buildings including administrative, medical, residential, religious, market, restaurant, bathhouse, and welfare facilities. It served not only as a medical institution but also as a lifelong residence for its residents. In 2009, it was designated as a potential World Heritage site in Taiwan.

In the future, the sanatorium will be repurposed as the national “Hansen’s Disease Medical History Museum,” which will be the only one of its kind in the country. It will serve as an exhibition hall with a focus on medical themes, showcasing the history of Hansen’s disease treatment, a living experience area showcasing a harmonious mountain lifestyle, and a cinema area. These spaces will provide opportunities for cultural and creative activities.
