Historic Building Restoration and Adaptive Reuse Planning for Matsu New Village, Zhongli District

Design concept

Matsu New Village was constructed in the 46th year of the Republic of China (1957) and gradually became vacant starting from the 93rd year (2004). Currently, only four areas, namely A, B, C, and D, remain. In the same year, the village was recognized as a historic building in Taoyuan County. The architectural style of the village predominantly features sloping-roof wooden structures and reinforced brick constructions. The future plan for the village is to develop it into a cultural and creative park that preserves the military dependents’ village culture. Area A will serve as a filming location, Area B as a creative exhibition and performance space, Area C as a military dependents’ village-themed restaurant, and Area D as accommodation with an authentic military dependents’ village atmosphere.
