Historic Buildings South Airport Dormitories and “Nan-Qiao Vil Aircraft Shelter Group” in Yi-Lan City

Design concept

During the Japanese colonial period, the development of aviation and airports in Taiwan witnessed the early stages of aviation development in Taiwan. It marked the beginning of modern aviation development in Taiwan. The Japanese Army Aviation Corps also began stationing in Taiwan in the late 1920s. The opening ceremony for the Yilan Airfield took place in July 1936 (Showa 11), and it became a transit station for civilian aviation heading east.

In the future, considering cultural heritage, industrial landscapes, and policy directions, the area is planned to be developed into an organic living park. The aircraft shelters and unused camp buildings and open spaces will be utilized for organic reading areas, organic dining areas, small farmers’ markets, creative agricultural activities, and other activities that promote an organic lifestyle.
