Restoration and Reuse Project for Historic Building Song-Shan Sanatorium (No. 185 Kun-Yang Street)

Plan content

During the Japanese period, in the public health policy, the Governor’s Office identified “leprosy, tuberculosis, and mental illness” as chronic diseases requiring isolation and treatment in special sanatoriums. Therefore, the “Xikou Health Care Center” directly under the administration of the Governor’s Office was established to treat tuberculosis patients and prevent tuberculosis.

In Taisho 14 (1925), the name was changed to “Governor’s Government Matsuyama Sanatorium” (this article will be referred to as Matsuyama Sanatorium for short). After Taiwan’s recovery, the name was successively changed to “Taiwan Provincial Songshan Nursing Home”, “Taiwan Provincial Tuberculosis Prevention and Control Center”, and “Chronic Disease Prevention and Control Bureau of the Department of Health, Executive Yuan”.

The “Songshan Sanatorium Dormitory” was speculated to be built in 1935 (Showa 10). The main entrance is in a Western style. The kitchen has a terrazzo countertop and wooden columns for rain shelters. The appearance of the building is generally intact. It was registered as a historical building on February 21, 2017.
